Home Alone Drinking Game
Paint cans, aftershave, a tarantula: in the Home Alone drinking game you drink at Kevin’s pranks – and Team Harry and Team Marv suffer with every trap.
How do you play Home Alone Drinking Game?
Agree on the rules before the film and split into two teams: Team Harry and Team Marv. For most rules, everyone takes a small sip when a familiar moment happens. In the big finale, only the team whose burglar walks into one of Kevin’s traps drinks.
The rules are made for the first film and, with a few tweaks, also work for the sequel in New York. Anyone who knows the film by heart isn’t allowed to call out what’s coming – there’s a penalty rule for that below.
One sip when …
- Kevin gets teased by his siblings or his uncle.
- Kevin wishes his family would disappear.
- the neighbour with the snow shovel shows up and Kevin runs off.
- Kevin screams with aftershave on his face.
- Kevin plays the old gangster film to fool someone.
- Kevin goes shopping on his own or orders food.
- Harry and Marv drive past in their van.
- Marv leaves the water running in a house.
- Kevin’s mum tries every possible way to get home.
- Kevin fakes a party with mannequins and cardboard figures.
- a trap gets your burglar – only your team drinks.
- someone in the room announces a gag before it happens – the spoiler drinks.
Two sips when …
- Kevin screams with both hands on his cheeks.
- Buzz’s tarantula appears.
- someone slips on the icy steps – that burglar’s team drinks.
- a trap gets both burglars at once – both teams drink.
- Kevin’s mum travels with a polka band.
Finish your glass (or three sips) when …
- a paint can swings into someone’s face – the team of the burglar who got hit.
- Harry’s hat catches fire – Team Harry.
Variations
- Light version: only the trap rules apply, so you start drinking at the finale – short but chaotic.
- Alcohol-free version: play with alcohol-free punch, hot cocoa or soda. The team with the most hits does the dishes afterwards.
- Team Kevin: a third group plays Kevin and hands out one sip to a team of their choice for every successful trap.
- Part two: for the New York film, swap the polka band rule for the pigeon lady; everything else stays.
Tips
Home Alone is a Christmas TV staple in many countries and runs just under two hours. The first half is calm, the finale all the more packed – pace your sips so you don’t end up taking more than Harry and Marv do.
Warning: In the finale, the traps go off one after another. Small sips only, ideally with soft drinks or alcohol-free punch – and keep some water close.
Agree on drinks and amounts before you start. The game works just as well without alcohol.
