Kottabos
The drinking game of the ancient Greeks: drink up and fling the last drops at a target.
How to play
Kottabos was played at Greek drinking parties. You drink your cup down to the last drops and fling them at a target.
The first to hit the target wins.
Modern version
- Cup kottabos: instead of wine drops, toss ping pong balls into a bowl or cup in the middle of the table.
- With a target: a plate balanced on an upturned glass serves as the target – make it clink to win the round.
- With a dedication: as in ancient times, name who you dedicate the throw to before you throw.
Background
Kottabos was popular at symposia in ancient Greece and appears on many vase paintings. Today the cup version is the practical choice – without a sticky floor.
