Star Wars Drinking Game
Lightsabers, jumps to hyperspace, stormtroopers who can’t hit anything: in the Star Wars drinking game you drink at the saga’s classic moments – it works with any film.
How do you play Star Wars Drinking Game?
Pick a Star Wars film and agree on the rules before you press play. Take a small sip whenever one of the classic moments happens on screen. The list works with every episode of the main saga and with the spin-offs.
If you like, split the rules up: everyone watches out for a few moments and calls them when they happen. That keeps the focus on the film and nobody has to keep count.
One sip when …
- a lightsaber is switched on.
- stormtroopers miss their shot.
- a ship jumps to hyperspace.
- the scene changes with a wipe transition.
- a droid beeps, whistles or complains.
- Chewbacca roars.
- someone uses the Force to move something or influence someone.
- a message plays as a hologram.
- a ship’s systems fail at the worst possible moment.
- a planet seems to be nothing but desert, ice, forest or swamp.
- strange aliens hang out in a shady bar.
Two sips when …
- a lightsaber duel begins.
- Darth Vader or another Sith enters the scene.
- a big space battle kicks off.
- a Jedi master gives wise, cryptic advice.
- someone explains a plan that’s clearly not going to work out.
Finish your glass (or three sips) when …
- someone loses a hand or an arm.
- the heroes fly an attack on a giant superweapon.
Variations
- Light side vs dark side: split into two teams. Whenever the other side wins a fight, your team drinks.
- Light version: only the two-sip and finish-your-glass rules count. No drinking for lightsabers, droids or hyperspace jumps.
- Alcohol-free version: swap beer for blue lemonade, spritzers or iced tea. The rules stay the same.
- Marathon: the nine episodes of the main saga run to more than 20 hours in total. Play the full rules for one film at most and the rest with the light version.
Tips
Before a marathon, decide whether you’re watching in release order or chronological order – fans love to argue about it. Spread the films over several evenings or a weekend and plan breaks with food and water. The one-sip rules come up a lot in action-heavy films, so drop a few of them if needed.
Warning: Space battles add up fast. Small sips only, ideally alcohol-free – and stop when you’ve had enough.
Agree on drinks and amounts before you start. The game works just as well without alcohol.
