The Office Drinking Game

A look at the camera, a pointless meeting, a prank on Dwight: in The Office drinking game you drink at the classic moments from the Dunder Mifflin office – for any episode.

How do you play The Office Drinking Game?

Pick one or more episodes of the US version of “The Office” and agree on the rules before you press play. Take a small sip whenever one of the classic office moments happens on screen. The list works with every season.

An episode only lasts about 20 minutes, but the moments come thick and fast. So feel free to split the rules up: everyone watches out for a few and calls them.

One sip when …

  • someone looks straight into the camera because things have got too awkward.
  • a talking head shows the exact opposite of what the character just claimed.
  • Jim pranks Dwight.
  • Dwight talks about his beet farm or shows off his martial arts.
  • Michael calls a meeting nobody needs.
  • Michael makes a joke nobody laughs at.
  • Michael is mean to Toby.
  • Andy raves about his college or starts singing.
  • Kevin is busy with food.
  • Angela gives someone a disapproving look or talks about her cats.
  • Creed says something completely baffling.
  • Stanley clearly can’t be bothered.

Two sips when …

  • an office party gets out of hand.
  • someone from corporate shows up.
  • Michael embarrasses someone in front of everyone without realising it.
  • Dwight and Jim argue about something completely trivial.
  • an outing away from the office ends in chaos.

Finish your glass (or three sips) when …

  • Michael does something genuinely kind and everyone is touched for a moment.
  • Dwight outsmarts Jim with a prank of his own.

Variations

  • One character each: everyone picks someone from the office and drinks whenever that character gets a talking head.
  • Light version: only the two-sip and finish-your-glass rules count. No drinking for camera looks or pranks.
  • Alcohol-free version: swap beer for lemonade, spritzers or office coffee. The rules stay the same.

Tips

If you’re watching several episodes in a row, take a break with water and snacks every two or three episodes, or switch straight to the light version. Newcomers can jump in without any background – the rules work even if you don’t know every character.

Warning: Several episodes in a row add up. Small sips only, ideally alcohol-free – and drop rules rather than drink faster.

Agree on drinks and amounts before you start. The game works just as well without alcohol.
