Buying a beer pong table: size, material and what matters
Your own beer pong table pays off if you play often or host backyard parties. Here’s what size a tournament table is, what to look for in the material, and which table covers most groups.
What size is an official beer pong table?
Tournament tables are 8 feet long, 2 feet wide and 27.5 inches high (about 2.44 m × 0.61 m, 70 cm high). That length leaves room for each side’s ten-cup triangle at the ends. On shorter tables, such as 6 ft, the game gets noticeably easier.
How much space do you need?
Rule of thumb: the table length plus about three feet at each end for throwing – so roughly 14–15 feet in total. Add a foot or two on the sides so nobody bumps the table. Outdoors, pick the flattest spot you have.
Aluminum, wood or plastic?
- Aluminum folding table: the standard. Light frame, usually with a coated board you can wipe down, folds into a suitcase shape.
- Solid wood: very sturdy but heavy – better for a basement bar than for tailgates.
- Plastic folding table: cheap and tough, but often shorter than 8 ft. Fine for casual games.
Folding, adjustable height, extras
- A suitcase-style fold with a handle matters if the table goes to tailgates, camping or festivals.
- Adjustable legs make up for uneven lawns.
- Cup holes keep cups in place but make re-racks harder.
- LEDs, ice compartments or prints are gimmicks – they add weight, not quality.
Our pick
For most groups, a portable 8 ft folding table is all you need. On Amazon.com, the GoPong 8 ft portable folding table is a long-established, widely sold model in this category. If you play in the UK, we point you to a comparable 8 ft folding table on Amazon.co.uk instead.
Playing without a dedicated table
No room for 8 feet? Any long, sturdy table works – just keep both ends the same distance apart. Rage Cage and Flip Cup even work on a regular dining table.

Frequently asked questions
How big is an official beer pong table?
8 feet long, 2 feet wide and 27.5 inches high – about 2.44 × 0.61 m and 70 cm high.
How many cups and balls do you need?
Ten cups per side, so 20 cups, plus two ping pong balls. A few spare balls never hurt.
Can a beer pong table stay outside?
Aluminum frames handle rain; coated boards only handle splashes. Wipe it down after the party, let it dry and store it folded indoors.
Can you play beer pong without alcohol?
Yes. Fill the target cups with water and keep your drink on the side – for hygiene reasons you shouldn’t drink from the target cups anyway.
