Beer Olympics
Teams as nations, five events, points and medals: how to run Beer Olympics in the garden, at a bachelor party or a birthday.
How do you play Beer Olympics?
Beer Olympics is a tournament made up of several drinking games, with teams competing for points and medals. It easily fills an afternoon and works from eight people upwards.
Preparation
- Form teams: three to six teams of two to five players. Each team picks a country or a colour, ideally with matching outfits.
- Choose a referee: ideally someone who stays sober – for example whoever is driving later.
- Pick the events: five to seven games played one after another.
- Put up a scoreboard: a big sheet of paper or a board where every event is recorded.
Proven events
- Beer Pong as a knockout bracket.
- Flip Cup as a whole-team relay.
- Quarters: bounce coins into a glass and count hits in two minutes.
- Rage Cage or Flunkyball for the whole group.
- Dizzy Bat: spin ten times around a bat, then run to the target.
- Kings Cup as a quieter event to catch your breath.
Scoring
In each event the last-placed team gets one point, the second-last two, and so on up to the winner. The team with the most points at the end takes gold. A medal ceremony with homemade medals is part of it.
Variations
- Skill Olympics: every event without alcohol, just cups and balls.
- Individual scoring: everyone plays for themselves and points are added up.
- Bracket: every event as a knockout, ideal with lots of teams.
Tips
Give every team drinks of the same strength and use small cups. Plan food and water breaks between events – good Beer Olympics are a marathon.
Warning: Leave chugging and speed-drinking events out. Have water ready, take breaks between events and pick a sober referee.
Agree on drinks and amounts before you start. The game works just as well without alcohol.
