EA FC Drinking Game

Two people play against each other while everyone else watches and waits for their turn. Take a small sip whenever something goes wrong for you on the pitch – a conceded goal, a card, an offside. Set the half length to four to six minutes so a match takes about a quarter of an hour and everyone gets to play regularly.

The game has been called EA Sports FC since 2023; before that, the series came out under the name FIFA. The rules work just the same with all the older FIFA editions. For bigger groups, there’s a tournament mode below.

One sip when …

• you concede a goal.
• your shot hits the post or the bar.
• you get a yellow card.
• you’re caught offside.
• you give away a penalty.
• you blast the ball way over the bar from a good position – the spectators decide.
• your opponent pulls off a skill move against you.
• you pause the game without an injury or substitution.
• you blame the controls or the referee after conceding.

Two sips when …

• you score an own goal.
• you get a red card.
• you miss a penalty.
• you concede in stoppage time.
• your opponent scores from their own half.

Finish your glass (or three sips) when …

• you lose by three or more goals.
• you lose a penalty shootout.

Variations

• Tournament mode: with four or more players, run a knockout tournament with random pairings. Whoever is knocked out becomes co-commentator and hands out one sip per match. The final decides who picks their team first next time.
• Loser rules: instead of drinking more, the loser has to do a small task – fetch drinks, commentate the next match or play with the weakest team.
• Light version: only the two-sip rules apply. That keeps heads clear and the match fair.
• Alcohol-free version: play with soft drinks, iced tea or alcohol-free beer – or note penalty points that turn into tasks at the end.

Tips

Play with evenly matched teams, otherwise the same person ends up drinking all night. Whoever is clearly better should pick a weaker team. If you play two-on-two on the couch, share the sips. And after every match: get up, drink some water, pass the controller.
